Indian skipper Rohit Sharma hinted at possible changes for the third T20I against Sri Lanka after having secured the series. The men in blue chased down a massive target of 184 in the second T20I with the help of an outstanding display of batting from Shreyas Iyer who remained unbeaten on 74. Sanju Samson (39) and Ravindra Jadeja (45*) played a big hand in the chase as India has been on an unbeaten streak of 11 games in a row with the win.
Meanwhile, India still has a lot of options on the bench and there might be plenty of changes coming up for the third game. Mayank Agarwal was roped in as a replacement for injured Ruturaj Gaikwad while Mohammad Siraj has been benched for the last five T20I games from the start of the West Indies games. Avesh Khan made his debut recently and he might well get his second game while Ravi Bishnoi might slot in for Yuzvendra Chahal who is likely to be rested.
We’ll have to look after everyone: Rohit Sharma
Rohit hinted at possible changes for the third T20I as the series has already been claimed and mentioned the number of players that had opportunities in recent times for India. He added that the upcoming Test series will also be taken into account as the likes of Siraj will be one of the top contenders in the Test side rather than the limited-overs side where he has been benched.
“We’ll sit down tomorrow, see what we can do (on any team changes), we have used 27 players so far, there could be more (laughs). When you win the series, there are guys who haven’t had the opportunities. Some of the guys will have to play Tests, we’ll have to look after everyone,” Rohit told during the post-match presentation.
He also noted the importance of staying fit physically and mentally and was delighted to keep winning despite a lot of experimentations. India will take on Sri Lanka in the final and third T20I at Dharamsala on February 27.
“It’s the sign of the times we’re in, it’s fine to look after physically, but it’s the mental thing that’s important as well. At the end of the day, we need to keep winning and keep positive vibes going through in the team,” he added.
