India, on Sunday, beat England by seven runs in the third and final ODI at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium to clinch the series 2-1. The series-decider lived up to the expectations as both the teams fought hard before the hosts beat the visitors by a small margin to emerge victorious. Asked to bat first, India were all out for 329 in 48.2 overs.

India were off to a solid start with the bat as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan shared a 103-run stand for the first wicket before England hit back by dismissing both the openers and skipper Virat Kohli in quick succession. The mini-collapse saw India getting reduced to 121 for 3. KL Rahul also could not do much either before Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya steadied the ship.

Both the batsmen scored fifties and shared a 99-run stand in just 11.4 overs to lay the foundation for the big total. Towards the end, Shardul Thakur played a fine cameo of 30 runs to help India cross the 320-run mark. In reply, England finished their innings on 322 for 9. At one stage, it looked like India would easily win the game after they restricted the visitors to 95 for 4 and then 200 for 7. However, a stunning knock of 95 not out from Sam Curran turned the game on its head but India managed to win the game to clinch the series.

Updated ICC Cricket World Cup Super League points table:

Despite losing the series, reigning world champions England are the top-ranked team in the ongoing World Cup Super League. The Eoin Morgan-led side is sitting at the top in the points table with 40 points in its kitty. They are followed by Australia at number two. Australia and England have the same number of points but the latter is ahead of the former because of their better net run-rate.

New Zealand, Afghanistan and Bangladesh complete the top five. All three teams have 30 points. India, on the other hand, have climbed to seventh in the ICC points table after the series win. The Men in Blue have overtaken Pakistan by registering their third win in the ICC Super League. India currently have 29 points to their name.
