India sealed the second Test against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on the third day itself. They defeated the visitors by a whopping margin of 238 runs despite Dimuth Karunaratne smacking a brilliant century in the second innings. However, no support from the other end meant that Sri Lanka were bundled out only for 208 runs chasing 447 runs. Ravi Ashwin picked up four wickets while Jasprit Bumrah added three more to his five-fer from 1st innings.

With this win, India have strengthened their position in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC). They have climbed to the fourth position now with 77 points and 58.33% in their fourth series for the 2021-23 edition of the tournament. Rohit Sharma and his men will have to continue their good job in the longest format to make it to the top two and qualify for the final of the WTC.

Australia at the top of WTC Points table

Meanwhile, Australia continue to be at the top of the WTC Points table and they are also likely to strengthen their position having dominated the second Test against Pakistan so far in Karachi. They bundled out the hosts for just 148 runs in their first innings and are in excellent position to force a result with two days ago in the game.

Also, with the loss against India in both Test matches, Sri Lanka have slipped to the fifth place and have only 24 points to their name. Their percentage is only 50 while Pakistan and South Africa are at the second and third place with 66.66% and 60% points. Pakistan will have to play really well to win or draw the ongoing Karachi Test.

New Zealand, the defending champions, are languishing at the sixth place and it seems things are not going well for them in this edition of the World Test Championship. Bangladesh, West Indies and England occupy the last three positions respectively in the table.
