Team India spilt an excellent opportunity to win a famous Test series against England in their backyard as the Three Lions showed excellent all-round performance during the second innings and snatch the victory from the visitors’ hands. Former England skipper Joe Root and in-form batter Jonny Bairstow were brutal against the Indian bowling line-up as they completed their respective hundreds during the chase.

Talking about the match, Team India was rocked by England’s bowling line-up as they lost five wickets without even reaching the 100-run mark in the first innings. Star allrounder Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant then came to Team India’s rescue as both completed their respective hundreds and ensured that the visitors cross the 400-run mark in their first innings.

Skipper Jasprit Bumrah also contributed with the bat after he thrashed Stuart Broad for six boundaries in an over. With the ball, he blew away England’s top order including both openers. Despite an excellent century by Jonny Bairstow in the first innings, the home team could not cross the 300-run mark.

Team India batters threw away their wickets during the second innings

Except for opener Shubman Gill who got out early, every Indian batter got a start in their innings but none of them, except Cheteshwar Pujara (66 off 168 balls) and Rishabh Pant (57 off 86 balls), went on to make a decent contribution as the visitors were bundled out for a mere 245 in their second innings.

Rectifying their mistakes from the first innings, openers Alex Lees and Zak Crawley gave a perfect start to England as they went on to stitch a 100+ run partnership. Team India got three wickets quickly, but the centurion from the first innings Bairstow and Root ensured that Team India does not make a comeback in the match.
