Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary Indian batsman, recently got his hands on the prestigious Laureus Sporting Moment Award on Monday in Berlin. He was crowned for 2011 World Cup-winning moment at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai where India beat Sri Lanka in the Final.

The ‘Moment’ was titled ‘Carried on the Shoulders of Nation’ and it got the maximum number of votes and emerged as the winner. After the Men in Blue came out trumps in the mega event after Kapil Dev’s journey back in 1983, Sachin was being carried by his teammates on their shoulders.

Going down the memory lane, the Master Blaster called it as the proudest moment of his life, a dream he was running after for 22 years. Highlighting the power and magic that sports brings to the fore, the enigmatic personality said that he lifted the World Cup on behalf of his countrymen.

We experience the power of sport: Sachin

“To be holding this trophy, I would like to thank the Laureus Academy members for giving this memory to me. I think it is really special. Also, the people who voted and felt that the moment we saw on screen was worth voting for,” Sachin told during the Awards function as quoted by India Today.

“It’s incredible. The feeling of winning the world cup was beyond what words can express. How many times you get an event happening where there are no mixed opinions, there are no mixed views. Very rarely the entire country celebrates.”

“Very rarely there are no opinions, everyone sits together and celebrates and this is a reminder again of how powerful sport and what magic it does to all our lives. We experience the power of sport. Even now when I watch that it has stayed with me,” Sachin stated

“It was the proudest moment of my life, holding that trophy which I chased for 22 years but I never lost hope. I was merely lifting that trophy on behalf of my countrymen,” the Little Master added.

Sachin also mentioned that he had the privilege of meeting president Nelson Mandela when he was only 19 years old. Tendulkar also threw light on a few personalities, who made optimum utilization of the resources they had.

Moreover, he had an interaction with tennis great Boris Becker, who asked him about the feelings of holding the World Cup trophy after as many as two decades. In response, Sachin said that waiting has helped him being optimistic and never lose faith in life despite the uncertainties it carries.
