MS Dhoni, the veteran Indian cricketer’s name has been in the headlines for long. He took a sabbatical from cricket after India’s upset in 2019 World Cup and he is still due to feature in a competitive game at any level. After the mega-event, this is the first time Team India has traveled to a SENA country where they have struggled a lot as Virat Kohli and Co. suffered a whitewash in the ODI series. Moreover, they are lagging in the ongoing Test series by 1-0. It was quite evident in the 50-over series that they missed MS Dhoni’s services a lot. And, now Ian Smith, the former Kiwi player opened up saying over the same on the eve of 2nd Test.

Dhoni is arguably one of the best skippers in the history of Indian cricket, who is admired by several cricketing greats. He is the only captain in the history of international cricket to have won T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, and Champions trophy. The cricketing fraternity is aware of his sharp cricketing mind and he is a vital part of Team India. But, after facing a defeat in the semi-finals against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup, he went on a sabbatical. The fans had expected him to return soon into the game but that has not been the case.

MS Dhoni fans across the globe want him to wear that blue jersey once again and make Team India win in the upcoming T20I World Cup that is slated to be held in Australia starting in October.

Ian Smith, the former New Zealand player turned commentator said that nobody can take the place of Dhoni in Team India. And, how it is possible that players will not feel his absence on the cricket field. He had almost won the 2019 World Cup semi-final for his team. He also added that he admires the veteran Indian cricketer a lot. And, he likes talking about him. But, there is a fact that everyone has to accept that there is a life of a player and the new generation will step up for their chances.

“How can you not miss MS Dhoni on a cricket field? He has been a great leader and a great finisher. He almost won you the World Cup [2019] semi-final. I admire him and love talking about him, but time moves on and at some stage, you have to accept that new generation will get a chance,” Ian Smith said as quoted by TimesNow.
