Sanjay Manjrekar, the former Indian cricketer, has come up in the news quite a few times over the past few months. He called Ravindra Jadeja a bits and pieces cricketer and the people lambasted him for the harsh comments. The veteran was a part of the commentary panel in India’s historic pink-ball Test match against Bangladesh at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

In the third day of the encounter, moments before India’s victory, Manjrekar got himself tangled into another unwanted controversy. This time around, he literally entered into a verbal war with renowned cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle. It was surrounding the characteristics of the pink cherry and Manjrekar along with the latter was involved in an argument.

During the encounter, a number of Bangladesh batters copped blows on the helmet, which raised a number of questions. Nayeem Hasan and Liton Das developed concussions and were ruled out. Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz replaced the duo. Even Mohammad Mithun and Ebadot Hossain got hit on the helmet. Fortunately, the duo carried on batting.

Manjrekar hits Bhogle with some harsh words

Seeing the batsmen getting hit, Bhogle said that the players should be asked about the visibility of the pink cherry. He felt that visibility might be an issue and it could be a detriment going into the long run. However, Manjrekar dismissed Harsha’s comments, saying that since the slip catchers aren’t having any problem, hence, the players are being able to see the ball.

Rather, Manjrekar felt that the texture of the leather should be worked upon. But Harsha said that there’s no harm in asking the players about the visibility. It was then when Sanjay churned out a reply, which was deemed as provocative and disrespectful by many. Manjrekar said that personalities like Bhogle, who hasn’t played cricket, need to ask about the same.

The comments didn’t go down well with the netizens and they lashed out at Manjrekar for the harsh comments. They said that Sanjay don’t have any right to demean someone of Bhogle’s stature. In the meantime, Bhogle has opened up on the matter, though indirectly.

He used the word ‘patience’ in his post, an attribute which he displayed during the conversation. But later, he deleted the tweet.
