Meanwhile, the LSG skipper has shared how he was named ‘Rahul’ by his parents. Rahul said that he believed he was named by his mother, who is a big fan of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan. To note, Shah Rukh has acted in several movies with his character’s name as ‘Rahul’

The now 29-year-old Rahul was born on April 19, 1992 in Mangaluru, Karnataka. He finished his studies from National Institute of Technology, Karnataka before shifting his focus to cricket.  The wicketkeeper-batter has represented several teams throughout his career including his domestic side Karnataka.

My mum lied to me: KL Rahul

KL Rahul, while appearing in a talk show ‘Breakfast with Champions’, shared how he realised that his mother had been lying to him all these years.

“So I’ve just realized a couple of years ago that my mum lied to me for the first 26-27 years of my life about how she named me. Her side of the story was that she was a huge Shah Rukh Khan fan and his characters in the 90s were Rahul, right? So I used to go with that story,” Rahul said on the show.

“So I told one of my friends who knows a lot about Bollywood. He said ‘bro, Shah Rukh’s first Rahul character was in 1994, you were born in 1992. It doesn’t make any sense,'” he added.

The right-handed-batter also told his father’s side of the story. “My dad’s side of the story checks out more. He was a huge Gavaskar fan. He used to hear this name on commentary so many times. (he heard Gavaskar’s son’s name as Rahul instead of Rohan),” he said.

Talking about his numbers in IPL, Rahul has played a total of 95 matches in which he has scored 3273 runs at an excellent average of 46.76 a good strike rate of 136.32.
