The stage was set for the return of ODI cricket for Pakistan on 27th September 2019. Since the attacks on the Sri Lanka team back in 2009, no other team visited the country to play 50-over cricket. Thus, it was quite an occasion for Pakistan cricket and its fans as the sport returned to the country. There was a great deal of excitement surrounding this game amongst the fans as well as the players.

However, it turned out to be quite an anti-climatic finish to what was supposed to be a momentous occasion. Relentless rain drenched the National Stadium in Karachi completely. There was so much water on the field that playing cricket seemed impossible. As a result, this match had to be called off. Looking at what happened, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to take a call to reschedule the 2nd ODI that was supposed to be played on 29th September 2019 (Sunday).

Have you ever heard of rain so heavy it washes out a game two days away?

This decision was taken to give the ground staff some extra time to get the ground ready. Also, the weather forecasts predicted a much better climate on Monday rather than on Sunday. The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) was kind enough to agree to this rescheduling and thus the match was postponed to 30th September 2019 (Monday).

However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) saw the funnier side of things on this occasion. In their tweet, the mocked the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to postpone a game which was two days away.

The second ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at Karachi has been rescheduled from Sunday 29 September to Monday 30 September due to the rain which washed out the first ODI. Have you ever heard of rain so heavy it washes out a game two days away?!” the ICC wrote in its tweet.

Sri Lanka will play the 3rd ODI on 2nd October at the same venue. Then, the proceedings will shift to Lahore for the shortest format of the game. The Gaddafi Stadium will be hosting three T20I games. The tour will conclude on the 9th of October 2019.
