After a dramatic finish to the final of Champions Trophy last year, the next edition was scheduled to take place in India in 2021. However, if the reports are to be believed, the International Cricket Council (ICC) look forward to hosting back-to-back T20 International World Cups in 2020 and 2021. As the news hit a cricket pundits ear, it won’t be wrong to say that the future of Champions Trophy seems to be shaky.

The idea to have the World T20 in place of Champions Trophy may well be inclined towards of not having a mini-World Cup since it takes the limelight of the most awaited event. After the last Champions Trophy (CT) held in England and Wales, it was mentioned quite a few times that this might well be the last edition of CT which seems to be well scripted after the statement released by ICC.

2021 World T20 to be held in India

With this, next three years will witness three World Stage tournament starting with 50-over World Cup, followed by two T20 World Cups. The 2020 T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played in Australia. It will be interesting to see whether the premier tournaments are able to keep up the popularity till the end.

Further to that, with Indian Premier League (IPL) taking place in the month of April-May and World Cup happening in the same format after that, the tournament may lose its spectators. However, the mega carnival in India is all set to last for over three-month which will help the populous to witness some fine cricketing action from some of the greats of modern day cricket.
