After over three weeks of thrilling encounters, it all boiled down to the top two sides locking horns for the ultimate glory in the ICC U19 World Cup 2018. India U19 and Australia U19 faced off in the finals of the tournament. The very fact that the youngsters got an opportunity to play at such a big stage was a matter of pride. Such immense was the pride for the players that an Australian U19 cricketer, Param Uppal, got a lavish gift from his father.

Param Uppal, the young batsman, has been piling on runs in the age group cricket in Australia. His father, Davindar Uppal, had promised the youngster that he would gift him a Mercedes if he makes it to the Australia U19 side for the coveted tournament. The young batsman managed to achieve the milestone and his father happily gave away the reward.

During the finals of the ICC U19 World Cup, one of the commentators spoke about the same. He sighed and hoped he had a father like that too! Davindar Uppal had migrated to Australia almost fifteen years ago. He was a club cricketer as well. Param Uppal has his roots in Chandigarh, India.

Param, as a youngster, played junior cricket in mornings and then saw his father practice in the senior cricketers’ match. Soon, he had a rise up the ranks and hit centuries at will in U16 level. Also, he hit a century on his U19 debut and earned a call up for the ICC U19 World Cup 2018.

India or Australia?

So when India faces off against Australia, who do the Uppals root for? Well, Davindar Uppal revealed that during the ICC World Cup 2015 semi-finals, when India and Australia had faced off, he had rooted for the Indian team. On the other hand, Param Uppal was hoping for an Australian win. But now, when India U19 and Australia U19 lock horns in the finals of U19 World Cup, both of them are hoping for an Australian triumph.

“In 2015 World cup semi-final I wore a India shirt and Param wore an Australian jersey. On Saturday (when Australia and India face off in the Under-19 final) , I will definitely be hoping Australia wins,” Davindar had told Cricbuzz.
