Shakib Al Hasan produced one of the greatest ever all-round performances as he scored 51 with the bat and followed with his career-best ODI bowling against Afghanistan. He ended up with figures of 5/29 in his ten overs to seal a 62-run win for Bangladesh and push them ahead in the points table. The all-rounder has been in impressive form with the bat in the tournament as is now the leading run-getter with 476 runs that he scored in only six innings.
All the major records and stats that were created by Shakib Al Hasan with his all-round brilliance:
1 – Shakib Al Hasan is now the first player in the history of the World Cup to score two centuries and claim two 4-wicket hauls. Shakib scored both his CWC centuries in this edition while his first 4-fer in this competition came against New Zealand in 2015.
1 – Shakib has scored 476 runs in this tournament at an average of 95.2 and picked up 10 wickets at an average of 30.10. He thus became the first player in CWC history to score over 400 runs and take 10+ wickets in the same edition.
1 – The all-rounder also became the first player from Bangladesh to claim a 5-wicket haul in the World Cup. Shaiful Islam’s 4/21 against Ireland in 2011 are the previous best bowling figures for Bangladesh in a CWC match.
2 – He became only the 2nd player in the history of the World Cup to score a century and take a 5-wicket haul. Yuvraj Singh registered this double when he faced Ireland in the 2011 edition. Shakib is also the first player from Bangladesh with a fifty and 5-fer in the same ODI.
3 – Shakib is only the 3rd player to have scored a century and take a 5-wicket haul in the same edition of the World Cup. Kapil Dev in 1983 and Yuvraj Singh in 2011 are the other two players with this double.
3 – This was the 3rd time Shakib has scored fifty and more runs and also bagged a 4-wicket in the same ODI. Shahid Afridi and Chris Gayle also recorded this double on three instances each.
5/29 – Shakib’s bowling figures of 5/29 are the best by any left-arm spinner in a CWC game. Yuvraj had figures of 5/31 when he also scored a fifty against Ireland in 2011.
7 – The Bangladesh all-rounder scored 50+ runs and picked up at least one wicket in the same World Cup game on seven occasions. He recorded this double the most times by any player surpassing Tillakaratne Dilshan’s six.
24 – Shakib now has taken two or more wickets and scored 50+ runs in the same ODI on 24 instances; the most by any player. He went past Jacques Kallis’ record of 23 such double in the ODI format.
1016 – Shakib also became the first player to amass 1000 runs in World Cup for Bangladesh. He is overall the 19th player to score 1000 World Cup runs and his 33 wickets are the most by for any of those 19 players.
