Bangladesh batsman Imrul Kayes failed to fully recover from his injury and now his inclusion in the limited overs team is in doubt for the first two matches of the tri-nation series. The tri-series which also includes Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka is scheduled to start with the first game to be played between the hosts and Zimbabwe on January 15, 2018. Though the batsman practised for a decent amount of time in the net sessions he will only take part in the series after fully recovering from his injury.

Bangladesh team were forced to drop some of their experienced campaigners including the likes of fast bowler Taskin Ahmed and out of form opener Soumya Sarkar. They have included Mustafizur Rahman and welcomed back batsman Anamul Haque who performed well in the domestic season as well as the Bangladesh Premier League. The likes of Mominul Haque, Shafiul Islam and keeper-batsman Liton Das were also ignored for the tri-nation series.

Imrul needs to be fully fit to field for 50 overs

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official doctor Debashish Chowdhury stated that presently he cannot determine whether Kayes would be playing the first match of the tri-series. He mentioned that the batsman took part in the net sessions yesterday and didn’t face much problems while training.

But the doctor also revealed that he needs to be fully fit and ready to take the field for the entire 50-over game. Chowdhury said that the final decision about his inclusion in the side for the first two games will be taken in the coming days, depending upon the status of injury revival.

“It will be not right to comment now whether he can play the first match or not. There is still time. We will see. Imrul batted in the nets yesterday. He didn’t face much problem. But while playing match, batting is not the only thing. He has to field for 50 overs too. We have to be aware of that. We still have few days left, now lets see what happens,” said the doctor as quoted by bdcrictime.com.
