In what is being called a virtual knock-out game, India will cross swords with New Zealand in match 28 of the T20 World Cup 2021. The encounter takes place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (October 31). With Pakistan almost sealing a semi-final berth, only other team from Group 2 can advance to the next stage. As Afghanistan, Namibia and Scotland are also featuring in the group, either New Zealand or India are expected to join the Men in Green. Hence, stakes are incredibly high in the upcoming game and it would be interesting to see which side emerges victorious.
Head to Head record:
The head-to-head record can’t differentiate India and New Zealand in T20Is. Both sides have played 17T20Is and each other and walked away with eight victories apiece. One of their encounters got abandoned. As far as World Cup clashes are concerned, the head-to-head record is 2-o in the Kiwi team’s favour. Although these numbers suggest both teams are standing at par, India have dominated New Zealand in the format in the last few years.

Top performers:
Dashing New Zealand batter Colin Munro has been exceptional against the Men in Blue in T20Is. He has scored the most runs (426) in the clashes. Among active cricketers, the dasher is followed by Ross Taylor (349) and Rohit Sharma (338). Among the bowlers, Ish Sodhi has picked up the most wickets (17). He is followed by Mitchell Santner (12), Tim Southee (10), and Jasprit Bumrah (10).
Last T20 World Cup meeting:
As mentioned above, these two sides have met twice in T20 World Cups. The last of those meetings occured in the 2016 edition. It was a low-scoring encounter where India suffered a shocking defeat. Batting first at the Nagpur Stadium, the Blackcaps were restricted to 126/7 in their allotted 20 overs. With the track helping the spinners, the Kiwis lost wickets regularly.
Although the target looked mediocre, the Indian batters couldn’t do much against spin twins Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner. The duo took seven wickets together as India were skittled out for mere 79 runs, losing the contest by 47 runs.
