India are gearing up to host New Zealand in three T20Is and a couple of Test matches, starting from November 17. The Men in Blue have a point to prove in this series as they suffered a horrendous campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021. Having lost to New Zealand and Pakistan in their first two fixtures, the inaugural-edition champions got knocked out of the league stage.
Also, the series will mark a new era in Indian cricket. The T20 World Cup was Virat Kohli’s last leadership assignment in T20Is. The talismanic cricketer took the decision in order to manage his workload. Now, the baton has been passed to Rohit Sharma and the veteran opener would be raring to shine in the leadership role.
Expectations are certainly sky-high from him as he’s the only captain to win five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles. He has also done well while leading the Indian team in Kohli’s absence so far. Besides the change in captain, the team management also underwent a revamp.
Rahul Dravid has replaced Ravi Shastri as India’s head coach and the New Zealand series will be his first assignment. Having lead India Under-19 and India A in the past, Dravid is well versed with the coaching role. He was even named India’s interim coach for the Sri Lanka tour earlier this year.
As far as New Zealand are concerned, they have become a force to reckon with in international cricket. They even played a vital role in India’s ouster in the last three ICC events. Hence, the home team must put their best foot forward to defeat the Blackcaps.
