Suryakumar Yadav scored 64 and pacer Prasidh Krishna took four wickets for just 12 runs as India defeated West Indies by 44 runs in the second ODI to clinch the series 2-0 with one game in hand. Both Yadav and Krishna recorded their career-best performances with West Indies minus Kieron Pollard again failing to put up a show in a 50-over match. Earlier in the day, regular skipper Pollard missed out on the game with a niggle as Nicholas Pooran wore the captaincy hat.
Speaking of how the match went by, Pooran won the toss and elected to field first. Rishabh Pant opened the innings for the first time in ODIs but could only manage 18 runs. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli too didn’t trouble the scorers much as they amassed five and 18 runs respectively. KL Rahul who batted at no. four-position mustered 49 runs before running himself out. Yadav got some support from Washington Sundar and Deepak Hooda in helping India to post a total of 237/9 in 50 overs.
Chasing 238, West Indies batting again looked weak as Shamarh Brooks scored 44 runs with second-most runs coming from Akeal Hosein’s bat who chalked up 34 runs. Darren Bravo and Nicholas Pooran were the victims of the impressive quick Krishna as both recorded single-digit scores. For his terrific spell of 4/12 in nine overs with three maidens, the right-arm fast bowler Krishna was adjudged with the Player of the Match award. India with the 11th consecutive bilateral ODI series wins against the Caribbean side will look to put more misery on them by winning the third and final ODI on Friday, February 11th subsequently clean sweeping 3-0.
