It has been a tough summer for the players not playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) – Cheteshwar Pujara and Ishant Sharma who are currently plying their trade in England. Pujara continued his dry run in county cricket as the 30-year-old batsman could just manage scores of seven and six in the tie against Somerset. Pujara, who is playing for Yorkshire could manage scores of 2, 18, 7 and 6 in the four innings he has played so far in the county season. The right-hander has just garnered 33 runs at a mere average of 8.25 in two games thus far.

On day four of the game, he was out with Adam Lyth to score 272 runs on the final day of the game. However, both the batsmen were soon back in the pavilion, leaving the team in a state of bother. In the end, Yorkshire were bowled out for 202, to lose the game by a big margin of 118 runs. Jack Leaning, who scored 68 runs, was the only standout player for Yorkshire in the second innings.

Matt Renshaw’s century in the first innings of the low-scoring game was the highlight. This was his second consecutive century in the ongoing county season. Apart from him, Jack Brooks’ seven-for was also a praiseworthy effort, but it came in a losing cause.

Ishant Sharma suffers an injury scare

The other Indian player playing county cricket Ishant, disappointed in the third round as he went wicketless while playing for Sussex against Gloucestershire. The match was at an interesting juncture before the start of day four as Gloucestershire needed 59 runs on the final day while four wickets would have done it for Sussex.

Persistent rain on Day four meant that no play was possible and the match ended in a draw. This also meant that there was no update on Sharma, who suffered an injury scare on the third day of the game.

Varun Aaron scalped just one wicket

The third Indian player playing county cricket this summer, Varun Aaron scalped one wicket in his first game for Leicestershire against Derbyshire. He bowled 17 overs in the rain-marred contest and went for 54 runs at an economy rate of 3.17 with one wicket.
