Indian PM Narendra Modi says Kumar Sangakkara will be missed: Today, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi praised Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara who recently bid adieu to international cricket. Recently, Sangakkara retired from Test cricket after the 2nd Test match against India at Colombo. It is notable that Sanga had taken retirement from T20Is and ODIs after the World T20 2014 and World Cup 2015 respectively.
During a joint press briefing with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at New Delhi, Modi was quoted by PTI saying, “We just finished an absorbing Test series. We shall all miss the great Kumar Sangakkara on the cricket field.” Prime Ministers of both the countries had held extensive talks so that they can take the bilateral relationship of Sri Lanka and India to the next level which will help in the growth and development of both the Asian nations.
Kumar Sangakkara is regarded as the greatest Sri Lankan batter ever while he is also one of the favorite son’s of Sri Lanka. He is perceived in high regards by the cricket pundits and experts throughout the world. One of the greatest ambassadors of the game, Kumar left behind a great cricketing legacy as well as a big void in international cricket which has only made the game poorer.

Sangakkara who represented Sri Lanka in 594 matches, accumulated 28,016 runs in international cricket. He ended up as the second highest run-scorer in international cricket only behind India’s legend Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.
Sanga’s international career didn’t have the best of endings, as Sri Lanka lost the 2nd Test match against India which was his farewell Test as well. The Lankan southpaw also performed poorly in his last Test series and turned into R Ashwin’s bunny who dismissed him on all the occasions in the Sri Lanka v India Test series.
