The Kolkata Knight Riders continued their merry run in the tournament this year. They beat the Delhi Daredevils at their fortress in Kolkata in an emphatic way. With their 2nd consecutive 7 wicket this season, KKR have rightly notified the other teams that they are the team to beat this time around. The batsmen continued their dominion in the match and it was skipper Gautam Gambhir, who led from the from the front again.

Coming into the game, the Knight Riders were firm favorites against the struggling Daredevils. It was more or less a do or die game for the Daredevils, who had only 2 wins coming to the match. It was Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gambhir who won the toss and had no hesitation in bowling first. The Delhi innings largely revolved around two batsmen Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson. While Samson scored a crucial 60, Iyer fell short of his fifty by 3 runs.

In the run chase, Sunil Narine was bowled in the second over to disrupt the KKR momentum. But it was the same old Gambhir-Uthappa duo that proved to be the thorn between the opposition and the win. Both batsmen scored their respective fifties in the run chase. Gambhir remained unbeaten on 71 to steer the team through to a 7 wicket win.

Here are the Kolkata Knight Riders Players Ratings for the KKR v DD encounter:

Gautam Gambhir – 9.5/10

Gautam Gambhir continued to bat in the rich vein of form that he has been in this season. He has a strong hold on the Orange Cap. Gambhir was spot on with his decisions on the day with his captaincy moves. The way he marshaled his bowlers is worth commending.

With the bat, he proved to be the man the Knight Riders can look up to. He finished with an unbeaten 71 runs to his name in the match. His knock came off just 52 deliveries as he managed to be the first batsman to score 35 fifties in the IPL. His knock was studded with 11 boundaries.

Robin Uthappa – 8.5/10

Robin Uthappa batted sensibly yet again and gave the right support to Gambhir. Both batsmen proved to be great pair with the bat for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Pretty much like the last game, Uthappa got an early let off as a confusion between Sanju Samson and Amit Mishra.

He made the most out of the opportunity and ended up taking the attack to the opposition. Uthappa scored his second fifty in a row to continue his good run of form. He was unfortunate to be run out on 59 that came off 33 balls towards the middle overs. His knock was embellished with 5 fours and 4 maximums.

Sunil Narine – 5/10

Sunil Narine was a disappointment with the bat on the day. The KKR continued to experiment with the opening slot as they persisted with Sunil Narine as the opener. He went after hitting just one boundary on the day. Earlier in the game, Narine had bowled decently enough.

He bowled his complete quota of 4 overs and gave away only 25 runs. He was the most economical bowler for them on the day. He had also provided the first breakthrough for the Kolkata Knight Riders when he got Karun Nair out with an lbw.

Manish Pandey – 2/10

Manish Pandey had a rare failurewith the bat on the day. He came in to bat after the dismissal fo Robin Uthappa. When he had arrived at the crease, there was still some more chasing to be done and Pandey was expected to help Gambhir cruise past the target. Pandey hit a four first up to give some hopes but was soon cleaned up by Kagiso Rabada. He perished after scoring just 5.

Yusuf Pathan – 4/10

The services of Yusuf Pathan were not needed yet again. The top order has been firing very well and hence Yusuf often ends up being padded up in the dressing room. Well, as long as the team is winning, Yusuf will not mind sitting in the dugout and waiting for his turn. However, he needs to be ready for the challenge whenever it beckons. In the field, he was decent and had no blemishes on the field.

Sheldon Jackson – 5/10

Sheldon Jackson had a very good introduction to the tournament. The talented veteran Saurashtra lad got his first opportunity in the lineup. In the run chase, he was promoted up the order ahead of Yusuf Pathan. The team management wanted him to get the feel in the middle for sure.

He hit two fours in his unbeaten knock of 12 runs. He ensured that no more wicket fell on the day. Earlier in the game, he donned the wicketkeeping gloves for a significant part of the Delhi innings. He inflicted a runout in association with Gambhir to send Corey Anderson packing.

Colin de Grandhomme – 1/10

Colin de Grandhomme had a very odd outing on the day. As has been the case in the tournament thus far, his services were not needed with the bat. This is because of the fact that the Kolkata Knight Riders batting has been firing well. With the ball, Grandhomme got an opportunity to impress. However, he messed it up big time by leaking 15 runs in the only over that he bowled. He ended up getting only one over on the day.

Nathan Coulter-Nile – 8/10

Nathan Coulter-Nile continued to bowl on the same note from where he had ended in the previous match that he had played. He was rested for the previous game in a bid to keep him fresh for this game. The trick seemed to have worked as Coulter-Nile emerged as the pick of the bowlers again,

He was a tad expensive on the day but managed to run through the middle order. He bowled his complete quota of four overs and finished with figures of 3/34. He dismissed Rishabh Pant cheaply on 6 and then backed it up with the wicket of Shreyas Iyer in the same over. Later in the game, he dismissed Chris Morris to complete his triple.

Chris Woakes – 5/10

English speedster Chris Woakes has been under the radar for not firing to the best potential thus far in the tournament. Many pundits have been disappointed with the way he has been very expensive in the recent matches. Also, he has failed to be a wicket taking option. Albeit he failed to take a wicket in this match as well, he at least managed to be economical. In the three overs that he bowled on the day, he gave away only 20 runs.

Kuldeep Yadav – 4/10

Kuldeep Yadav has been a sensation ever since he has broke on the big stage. The match against the Delhi Daredevils was a quiet one for him though. He is renowned for being a wicket taker and a partnership breaker. However, Kuldeep was very ordinary with the ball today and the DD batsmen negotiated him with ease. He went wicketless with the ball. In the 4 overs that he bowled, he gave away 27 runs.

Umesh Yadav – 4/10

Umesh Yadav has been India’s premier pacer in the recent times. However, when it comes to the shortest format of the game, he has proved to be an expensive deal. The story did not change much in this particular game as well. He leaked 38 runs in his spell of 4 overs. The only wicket that he took on the day was the big fish Sanju Samson. He caught Samson plumb lbw on 60.
