IPL 2017: Gujarat Lions – Statistical Preview

Gujarat Lions made a great start in IPL by finishing on top in the league stage in their debut season but failed to replicate the same in the qualifiers and bowed out without making it to the Grand Finale. The Gujarat Lions franchise is blessed by highly experienced IPL campaigners and a line-up filled up with the power-packed set of batsmen.

Here we look at all the records and stats related to the Gujarat Lions in IPL.

1 – Gujarat Lions were only the 2nd team in IPL to top the league stage table in their maiden season. Rajasthan Royals topped the table in the inaugural IPL edition.

2 – Number of times Gujarat Lions chased down the target on very last ball of the game during the last season. There were only two other games during the previous edition where teams chased down on the very last ball of the match.

3 – Gujarat Lions is only the 2nd team in IPL history to win their first three matches. Chennai Super Kings won in their first 4 games they played in IPL.

5 – Number of Gujarat Lions’ batters scored 300+ runs in 2016 edition. No other team had more than 3 of their players scoring 300+ runs.

5 – Number of players in the current Gujarat Lions’ squad have featured in over 100 games in IPL. Raina, Karthik, Jadeja, Praveen and Bravo are those five players. McCullum could well join the list in this season.

6 – Number of matches Gujarat Lions won in their first 7 games played in IPL, the most by any team. Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad won 5 out of the first 7 IPL games.

9 – Number of matches Gujarat Lions won in the previous season, joint 3rd most wins for any team in their maiden season. Rajasthan Royals won 13 games in 2008 while Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad won 10 games in 2008 and 2013 season respectively. Chennai Super Kings too won in 9 games in the inaugural season.
