Delhi Daredevils brought an end to their losing streak with a big 55-run win under their new skipper Shreyas Iyer against the Knight Riders. Prithvi Shaw’s 62 at the top and Iyer’s devastating innings of 93 in just 40 balls helped the home team to finish with 219/4. Iyer hit three fours and a record ten sixes as DD added 76 runs in the final four overs. Kolkata Knight Riders lost the game when they were four down into the 6th over of the chase. Andre Russell’s blitz could only make a difference to DD’s losing margin.

10 – Number of sixes Shreyas Iyer hit during his 93-run knock. He became the first captain in the history of IPL to hit 10 sixes in an IPL inning. Adam Gilchrist hit nine sixes against RCB in the 2011 edition for KXIP when he scored 106.
Iyer is also the first Delhi Daredevils player to hit ten sixes in an IPL inning. Kevin Pietersen in 2012 and Rishabh Pant in 2017 hit nine sixes in an innings at this venue.
10 – Shreyas is only the 3rd Indian player to hit as many as 10 sixes in an IPL inning. Murali Vijay hit 11 sixes for CSK against RR in the 2010 season while Sanju Samson hit ten sixes for RR against RCB earlier this season.
11 – Iyer became the 11th player to captain Delhi Daredevils in the IPL. He is the youngest of the 11 DD captains and the 4th youngest captain in the IPL. Iyer and Virender Sehwag are the only DD captains to win their first IPL match.
18y 169d – Prithvi Shaw became the joint youngest player to score a fifty in the IPL. He equalled Sanju Samson’s record of scoring a fifty in the IPL at the age of 18 years and 169 days. Samson scored a fifty in the 2013 season for RR against RCB.
22 – This match was the 22 Twenty20 game and the 21st in the IPL between DD and KKR but the first without Gautam Gambhir in the playing XI of either side.
93* – Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 93 is the highest individual score for any player on their IPL captaincy debut. Aaron Finch’s 64 for Pune Warriors against KXIP in the 2013 edition was the previous highest.
122 – Gautam Gambhir’s 122-match streak of representing his teams in the IPL comes to an end with this match. Gambhir led his teams in all those 122 matches he played since the 2010 edition. No other player captained in as many as 122 straight IPL matches for the teams they played.
219/4 – Delhi Daredevils’ total of 219/4 is their 2nd highest total in the IPL behind 231/4 against the Kings XI Punjab in the 2011 edition.
This is also the highest total for any team against Kolkata Knight Riders surpassing Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 209/3 in the previous edition.
