Kolkata Knight Riders began their hunt with a win under their new skipper Dinesh Karthik who saw his side through to a 4-wicket win. AB de Villiers (44), Brendon McCullum (43), Mandeep Singh (37) and Virat Kohli (31) contributed towards RCB’s total but none of them converted their starts. Sunil Narine’s 19-ball 50 followed by Dinesh Karthik (35*) and Nitish Rana (34) knocks helped KKR to chase down the 177-run target with seven balls to spare.

All the stats and numbers that were recorded during the thrilling game between KKR and RCB:

1Sunil Narine became the first player to score multiple fifties in 17 and fewer balls in the IPL. He scored a 15-ball fifty also against RCB during the last season.

Narine is overall the 4th player after Chris Gayle (3), Kieron Pollard (2) and Imran Nazir (2) to score multiple fifties in 17 and fewer balls in the Twenty20 format.

3Nitish Rana became only the 3rd player to claim Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers’ wickets on consecutive deliveries in an over. Jacques Kallis for KKR in 2013 and Thisara Perera for RPS in 2016 have got the wickets of RCB’s best batsmen in consecutive balls.

25.5 – Number of consecutive overs Mitchell Johnson bowled without taking a wicket in the Twenty20 format. Johnson failed to take a wicket in each of his last five games in the recent BBL season. He picked up Sarfaraz Khan’s wicket in his final over of the game.

48 – Runs conceded by Washington Sundar in the four overs he bowled. This is the first time that Sundar conceded 40 and more runs in an innings in his 27-match Twenty20 career.

150This is the 150th IPL game for RCB captain Virat Kohli and KKR’s vice-captain Robin Uthappa. Kohli also became the first player to feature in 150 IPL games for a single team. All the 150 IPL games he played have been for RCB only.

162 – Number of sixes AB de Villiers hit in the IPL so far. These are the 4th most number of sixes for any player and the 2nd most for an overseas player in the IPL. Chris Gayle (265), Rohit Sharma (173) and Suresh Raina (173) hit more sixes in the league than ABD.

9035 – Brendon McCullum became the 2nd player to complete 9000 runs after Chris Gayle in the Twenty20 format. McCullum completed the milestone with a six off Vinay Kumar in the first over of the game.
