The two-month long festival of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 is well and truly underway. It has also begun with the bang that many have certainly expected it given the fact that two of the league’s most successful sides – The Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians faced-off in the first encounter. The match succeeded a glittering opening ceremony which saw the likes of Hrithik Roshan and several other superstars take the field.

However, while there is indeed a lot of silverware when it comes to the Indian Premier League, none at the moment is more magnificent than the coin that had been used by the match officials at the much-anticipated ‘Coin Toss’. While it continues to remain a mystery regarding the maker of the golden clad coin, it certainly seems to be one of the exotic kind, something that is usually mined and reconstructed by a jeweler.

In the past, Indians have been known for their precision when it comes to mining stones and building of diamonds, something that has been in and around since the country was ruled by the British Raj all those years ago, to say the least.

A cracker of an opening

The opening of the VIVO Indian Premier League saw the Mumbai Indians take on the Chennai Super Kings in a much-publicised clash. The publicity comes from the fact that both these sides have been quite successful in the League over the years. In addition, there has also been a revival of sorts for MS Dhoni’s CSK who are making a comeback following their arduous two-year ban from the Indian Premier League.

As things stand, the hosts MI have fought their way back after losing two early wickets to pile on 165 in the first innings.

Here is what the coin looks like
