Chennai Super Kings were on the receiving end yet again as they lost their sixth game of the tournament. Delhi Capitals hammered them in all the departments as CSK looked out of touch yet again. They bowled well in patches, they batted well in patches but it was their fielding which disappointed them the most.
Chennai scored a decent total of 179, which looked enough to defend at Sharjah’s slow surface. However, Shikhar Dhawan had other plans and the southpaw scored his maiden T20 hundred to stay there till the end and take his team over the line. With six defeats against their name, CSK needs to win all of their remaining games to qualify for the playoffs.
Here are the three mistakes committed by CSK in Match 34, DC vs CSK:-
1. Playing an extra bowler at Sharjah
As Sharjah has a smaller boundary, teams prefer to play an extra bowler on this ground. However, CSK went with an extra batsman, Kedar Jadhav. He didn’t get to bat as CSK only lost four wickets and in the end when the yellow army needed an extra bowler, he wasn’t a reliable option. If CSK would have played an extra bowler in form of a seamer, he could have been valuable at the death but playing an extra batsman didn’t work quite well.
2. A slow start with the bat for CSK
CSK lost their first wicket quite early, but what followed was even worse. Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson stitched a long partnership but the scoring rate was extremely slow and the duo consumed a lot of balls. At the end of 9 overs, CSK had only scored 56 runs, which was quite less on a ground like Sharjah. In the end, their total was restricted to 179, which could have been near 195 if they would have batted better in the first 10 overs.
3. Poor fielding
CSK were defending 180 and they started well with two early wickets. However, their fielding was extremely below the standards as they committed a lot of mis-fields and dropped 3 catches of Shikhar Dhawan. Hence, he climbed onto the opportunities and scored an unbeaten hundred to take his team home. If CSK would have grabbed the chances, things could have turned out differently.
