The grand auction for the IPL 2020 is around the corner. The final list of 332 shortlisted players has been finalized, and these players will go under the hammer on 19th December, hoping to be one of the 73 players to be sold. Franchises would be busy creating their wishlist and will hope to get their preferred players at the lowest possible price.

Much to the surprise of all, the names of many players has been found missing from the shortlisted list. These are big names, who have established themselves as a T20 specialist. They could have been the centre of attraction for many franchises and fetched huge bids.

Let us take a look at 5 such prominent names, who are missing from the shortlisted names:

Hazratullah Zazai

Hazrattullah Zazai has become a specialist T20 batsman now, someone who can go for the kill from the word go. The explosive right-hander was being considered a player to watch out for in the IPL 2018 auctions, primarily due to his exploits in the Afghanistan Premier League, where he scored 322 runs from 10 innings, at a strike rate of 193. Unfortunately, all the hype came to an end when he went unsold.

However, the 21-year-old Zazai kept impressing in the games that followed. He scored a fiery 162 runs in just 62 balls against Ireland, therefore yet again showing a glimpse of his talent. His proven abilities have also helped him climb up into the top 10 rankings of the batsman in T20I cricket.

No doubt, he could have been a hot pick in this auction, since every team wants to have services of such a player, who can help the team maximize the use of powerplay. The reason for him not putting his name in the auction is still unknown. Had he put up his name in the auctions, teams like RCB, RR and CSK could have bid heavily for him.

Andre Fletcher

In the IPL, there is always a demand for some power-hitters, who can maximize the use of powerplay. And Andre Fletcher is one such player, who, on his day, can torment any bowling attack. It was clearly visible in the T10 League, where the right-hander smashed 186 runs in 8 games while playing for Bangla Tigers.

Moreover, he hit 19 sixes in the tournament, making him the second-highest six-hitter of the tournament. Being an occasional wicket-keeper further adds to his value, thereby providing a backup wicketkeeper to the team as well. Surprisingly, despite form on his side, the 32-year-old has opted out of the auction.

The auction provides an opportunity for many teams to strengthen their bench, and Fletcher could have played an imperative role in any team he would have represented. After exploits in T10 League, he has been featuring in the Bangladesh Premier League. So its highly unclear that why he opted out of the action, despite being fit and in regular action.

Dawid Malan

How often do you find a player sitting at the 3rd rank in the T20Is, despite playing only nine games? Well, Dawid Malan is one example of such players. The top-order batsman from England has literally shown the ability to un through any opposition, a strike-rate of 156 giving the testimony for the same.

Without any doubt, Malan would have been on the wishlist of numerous franchises, especially the ones who desperately want firepower in the top-order. He being a southpaw also provides an extra dimension to the batting lineup. Moreover, his ability to convert starts into big innings further makes him a special player.

However, his name has been found missing from the shortlisted auction list. Many England players have often resisted participation in the tournament since its arrival coincides with the County Cricket in England. The same might have been the reason for Malan deciding to pull out of the auctions, but one will need to wait for the confirmation to get a clearer picture.

James Vince

James Vince was there in the list of 971 players but hasn’t been shortlisted for the upcoming auctions. This comes as a surprise since his current run of form is very encouraging. He smashed a half-century against New Zealand in the first T20I, and then followed it with impressive outings in the Mzansi Super League.

An aggressive player like him could have solidified the bench strength of any team. Moreover, he could have even found a place in the playing XI of many teams, who are looking for a specialist top-order batsman. Unfortunately, no team has even requested the BCCI to put his name on the list, which means he wasn’t on the wishlist of any franchise.

With County Cricket also scheduled around the same time, one will hope him to do well. However, his and Malan’s services will be dearly missed in the tournament, since they could have added value to any team.

Vinay Kumar is no more a stranger to the tournament. Since its inception in 2008, the bowler had been a part of every season till 2018, and a handy customer for every team. Unfortunately, there has been a decline in his form since 2014, and the 35-year-old has failed to cross even 10 wickets in past 5 seasons.

This was a primary reason for him being unsold at the IPL 2019 auctions. But if the form is anything to go by, Vinay scalped 11 wickets in seven games during the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He wreaked havoc against Assam and Madha Pradesh with his figures of 4-4 and 4-30 respectively. With form on his side, he could have easily been able to find a franchise in the upcoming auctions.

Moreover, teams like RCB and KKR are looking for a backup bowler, which could have made him an attraction during the auctions. However, he has opted out of the auctions, which might surprise many. He is currently a part of Puducherry squad in the Ranji Trophy, and it will be interesting to follow his performance in the tournament to get an idea of the reason behind him pulling out.
