The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is witnessing its first weekend double header this season. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) locked horns in the first match of the day with the latter side opting to bat first after winning the toss. However, the decision didn’t prove to be a good one as their in-form top three, Jos Buttler, Steve Smith and Sanju Samson, was dismissed early in the innings.

However, the efforts of Mahipal Lomror and Rahul Tewatia helped RR post 154 runs on the board after 20 overs. The latter took care of the death overs remaining unbeaten on 24 off just 12 balls with a four and three sixes. But the stay in the middle wasn’t a comfortable one for the Royals’ all-rounder.

In the last over of the innings, Navdeep Saini came running in even as Rahul Tewatia moved out of the line to play a scoop shot. In an attempt to follow the batsman, Saini delivered a high full toss, rather a beamer, which took Tewatia by surprise and he didn’t have much time to move out to the way. The ball slipped out of the bowler’s hands and ended up hitting the batsman on his chest.

Tewatia got himself into an awkward position and in the end, fell on the ground in pain after being hit. The Royals’ physio John Gloster was in the middle to attend him and after some treatment, he was up and running.

The on-field umpire was quick to call it a no-ball and the next ball turned out to be a free-hit for Rahul Tewatia. This time around, he got under the length ball and slammed it for a huge six. Navdeep Saini seemed to be a bit shattered after the ball slipped out earlier and ended up dishing a hit-me ball. He conceded 15 runs in the last over to let RR go past the 150-run mark after 20 overs.

For RCB, Yuzvendra Chahal ended with the top figures of 3/24 in his four overs while the rest of the bowlers also did well for the team.
