The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the 2020 season was hosted by Kolkata where a total of 62 players were sold to the eight franchises. The 8 teams sat to complete their squads ahead of 2020 which will be the last season before the Mega auction for the 2021 edition. The overseas fast bowlers were in demand this time as they occupied four of the top five places in the list of expensive players at this event. The Australian pacer Pat Cummins earned the highest bid of 15.5 crore INR from Kolkata Knights Riders.

6 – Aaron Finch now has been bought at six IPL auctions and was picked up by a different team each and every time. He is the first overseas player to be auctioned six different times and only the 2nd player after Yuvraj Singh to be bought by six different teams at the IPL Auctions. The Royal Challengers Bangalore will be the 8th franchise that Finch will represent in the IPL.


8.5Sheldon Cottrell became the highest-paid player from West Indies at an IPL auction. He was bought for 8.5 crore INR by Kings XI Punjab. Shimron Hetmyer’s sold price of 7.75 crores by Delhi Capitals is the 2nd highest for any West Indian in an IPL auction.

Before this auction, the highest sold price for a player from West Indies was just 6.4 crores INR of Dwayne Bravo by Chennai Super Kings for the 2018 edition.


9 – Jaydev Unadkat now has been sold at the IPL auction for the 9th time. No other player got sold at auctions for more than six different IPL editions. The Rajasthan Royals have bought Unadkat for the 3rd consecutive season.


15.5Pat Cummins’ sold price of 15.5 crore INR is the highest for an overseas player in the IPL auctions. Ben Stokes’ 14.5 crore INR for the 2017 season by Rising Pune Supergiant was the previous highest. Cummins’ price is also the 2nd highest for any player behind the 16 crores spent by Delhi Daredevils over Yuvraj Singh for the 2015 edition.

Kolkata Knight Riders were the first team to buy Cummins at the IPL. They spent only 1 crore INR to get the Australian pacer for the 2014 edition.


31.05 – A total of 31.05 crores approximately have been spent over Glenn Maxwell by the franchises at the IPL auctions. This is the highest sum for any overseas player in the IPL auctions. Only Yuvraj Singh (48.1 cr INR), Dinesh Karthik (38.9 cr INR) and Jaydev Unadkat (32.6 cr INR) have earned more at the IPL auctions than Maxwell.


140.30 – A total of 140.3 crore INR has been spent at this IPL auction; the highest in an IPL auction outside mega auctions (2008, 2011, 2014, 2018).

As many as 62 players were bought by the eight franchises for the 73 available slots. Of the 62 players, 29 are overseas players. Overall, 30 out of 62 players bought in this auction have been uncapped players.
