Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders will resume their respective Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 campaigns against each other. The high-voltage encounter takes place at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Monday (September 20). The two teams have developed a sort of rivalry over the years and it would be interesting to see who emerges victoriously in the upcoming contest.

It has to be noted that both these sides had entirely different campaigns in the first installment of the gala tournament. Virat Kohli’s RCB was on a roll and their position in the team standings narrates the entire story. With five wins in seven games, the Bangalore-based team was third in the team standings at the time of season suspension. This means the side needs to win just three of their remaining eight games to officially secure a place in the playoffs.

On the contrary, KKR’s journey hasn’t been that pleasant. Nothing much has gone their way this season and they face a hefty challenge in the UAE leg. As of now, the Eoin Morgan-led side is reeling at the penultimate place, having won just two of their first seven games. Hence, a couple of defeats this season might end their hopes of securing a place in the playoffs.

For the unversed, RCB walked away with a comprehensive 38-run triumph when these two sides crossed swords in the first leg. Electing to bat first in Chennai, RCB posted a mountain of 204/4 thanks to fiery half-centuries from AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell.

In reply, KKR could only score 166 for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. While RCB would like to replicate their heroics, the two-time champions will fight for redemption.

Meanwhile, let’s look at important stats and numbers ahead of the 31st game of the Indian Premier League 2021:
