Royal Challengers Bangalore just surrendered themselves against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as they got skittled out for just 68 runs, their second-lowest total in the history of the IPL, to lose the encounter by nine wickets in Match 36 of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Pacer Marco Jansen was the wrecker-in-chief as he tore apart RCB’s top order with three quick wickets. T Natarajan also took 3/10 in his three-over spell as SRH registered their fifth successive victory.

Talking about how the Southern derby went by, Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to field first. Both the sides went into the match with the same playing XI from the last game. RCB’s top three batters were just blown away by Jansen’s pace bowling as Virat Kohli bagged a golden duck for the second consecutive time.

Captain Faf du Plessis scored five runs while Anuj Rawat also got dismissed for naught. Suyash Prabhudessai was the top scorer for RCB as he made 15 runs. All SRH bowlers were amongst the wickets with Jagadeesha Suchith picking up two wickets including the prized scalp of Dinesh Karthik. RCB also scripted the unwanted record of the sixth-lowest total ever in the tournament.

Chasing just 69 runs to win, opener Abhishek Sharma got his team off to a blistering start as the left-handed batter smashed 47 runs off just 28 deliveries which included eight fours and one maximum before getting out to Harshal Patel. SRH finished off the formality in eight overs to register the fourth-largest victory in terms of balls remaining (72) in the competition’s history.

With this massive victory, SRH jumped to the second spot with ten points in the table while RCB’s net run rate got hampered badly as they occupy the fourth position. For his opening spell burst and figures of 3/25, Marco Jansen won the Player of the Match award.
