The Chennai Super Kings will take on the Delhi Capitals in Match 55 of IPL 2022 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on May 8 (Sunday). CSK will be heading into this clash on the back of a 13-run defeat at the hands of southern rivals Royal Challengers Bangalore. The defending champions have now found themselves in a precarious situation and must win all of their remaining fixtures with their tournament hopes hanging by a thread.

After losing the southern derby, the title-holders will be making one change in their playing XI. They would be going back to their seasoned all-rounder Dwayne Bravo who is warming the bench for a while. He would be coming in place of South African player Dwaine Pretorius. Apart from this, Chennai would not be interested in making any other changes.

Here’s the predicted Playing XI of the Chennai Super Kings for Match 55 of IPL 2022:

Openers: Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway

After scoring a match-winning 99 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a 23-ball 28 and was also involved in a 54-run stand along with Devon Conway against RCB. After two successful partnerships, CSK would be hoping that the duo would lay yet another solid foundation in the next game.

On the other hand, Conway has simply been outstanding ever since his comeback in the second leg of this season. After an unbeaten 85 that propelled Chennai to a total of over 200, he made his bat do the talking once again with a brilliant 56 runs from 37 deliveries against RCB. He would be expected to continue his splendid run when the New Zealander takes on Delhi’s lethal bowling attack.

Middle-Order: Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni (c & wk)

Veterans Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu would be looking forward to playing crucial match-winning knocks against the Capitals as it has been a while since both have made an impact on the 22 yards. While Uthappa was dismissed cheaply for just one run against Bangalore, Rayudu was sent back for just 10 runs to his name.

Captain MS Dhoni who has finished things off in style on a couple of occasions this season would be hoping to rediscover his rhythm as the finisher, especially in the death overs. He made just two runs in the last encounter.

All-Rounders: Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, and Dwayne Bravo

Moeen Ali showcased an excellent performance against the Royal Challengers Bangalore with his all-round performances. While he scored 34 runs off 27 deliveries, he also chipped in with figures of 2/28 from his four overs.

Dwayne Bravo has so far scored just 10 runs from eight matches and has registered 14 scalps to his name. He will be replacing an underfire Dwaine Pretorius.

Bowlers: Simarjeet Singh, Mukesh Choudhary, and Maheesh Theekshana

Simranjeet Singh had a forgettable match against RCB where he not only went wicketless but was also expensive as he conceded 21 runs from his two overs at an economy rate of 10.5. On the other hand, Mukesh Choudhary has been one of Chennai’s go-to bowlers this season. He might have gone wicketless against Bangalore but, the emerging pacer has picked up 11 wickets so far this season.

In the last match against RCB, Maheesh Theekshana was the pick of the bowlers for the reigning champions as he finished with impressive bowling figures of 3/27.

Here’s the Chennai Super Kings Predicted XI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Moeen Ali, Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c) (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Simarjeet Singh, Mukesh Choudhary, Maheesh Theekshana.
