Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Anunay Singh has opened up on his struggle during the start of his cricketing career. Anunay is currently part of Rajasthan Royals after being bagged by the former champions for INR 20 lakh during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction.

The 26-year-old made has already played a few domestic matches and is currently a part of RR camp. The right-arm pacer recently opened up about his struggling days, stating that there was a time when he used to work at the food joints to earn around INR 7-8,000. Anunay also mentioned that he had to survive on milk and bread for quite a few days.

Talking about his numbers in the domestic circuit, the right-arm pacer has played a solitary first-class game, eight List A, and one T20 matches, in which he has scalped 12 wickets, with his best figures being 3/12. Anunay was last seen in action during the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

It was just my dad who was earning at home: Anunay Singh

“I’m from a middle-class family. It was just my dad who was earning at home. I thought of working part-time at times. McDonald’s or somewhere, I’d earn 7-8k if nothing. But then, I thought that if I did work, my practice would be hampered, and cricket is expensive — it was and it still is,” Anunay was quoted by India Today.

“I didn’t talk about it at home. My seniors would often give me shoes. So, a lot of nights have been spent where I slept having just milk, or milk and bread. If I say I didn’t eat before sleeping, no mother will be able to sleep,” he added.

Meanwhile, his team RR will take on KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their next group stage encounter, which will be played at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on May 15 (Sunday). To note, RR is currently placed third in the points table of IPL 2022.
