The Kolkata Knight Riders dished out an absolute mauling to the Royal Challengers Bangalore side in the 31st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Eoin Morgan-led outfit proved to be superior in every department of the game and romped home with 9 wickets and 60 balls to spare against the Bangalore outfit.

Chasing a meager target of 93 set by the RCB side, the KKR openers, Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer were ruthless in their approach and nonchalantly decimated the RCB bowling attack. The duo was severe on any loose delivery offered by the RCB bowlers and put on an 82-run partnership for the opening wicket as Virat Kohli and his men were rendered helpless.

While Iyer scored 41* off 27 deliveries, Gill helped himself to a handsome 34-ball 48. On the bowling front, Yuzvendra Chahal scalped the only KKR wicket to fall. Other than that, it was a day of abject misery for the RCB side with the ball in hand.

Varun Chakravarthy and Andre Russell flummox the RCB batsmen

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side produced a shambolic performance with the willow in hand. Virat Kohli and his men were bowled out for a paltry total of 92, as the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) bowlers bossed over the RCB willow wielders.

Such was the sorry state of affairs for the RCB side that none of their batsmen could even cross the 25-run mark, and as many as 7 batsmen could not even score in double digits. The famed triumvirate of Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and AB de Villiers failed collectively, as the RCB side found itself in doldrums.

While skipper Kohli was trapped in front of the stumps by Prasidh Krishna for just 5, de Villiers was clean bowled for a first-ball duck by a terrific yorker from Andre Russell. The dangerous Glenn Maxwell found his stumps shattered by Varun Chakravarthy and departed for 10.

Each and every KKR bowler who rolled his arm over returned with good figures, and none of the bowlers leaked runs at an economy rate of over 6 runs an over. While Russell and Chakravarthy scalped 3 wickets each, Lockie Ferguson picked up 2 wickets.

With this crushing win, the Kolkata Knight Riders have moved to 5th place in the IPL points table, while the Royal Challengers Bangalore side is stationed at the 3rd place.
