Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul were hell-bent on destruction on 21st September 2021 against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) side. Chasing a target of 186, the Punjab opening duo put on a whirlwind 120-run partnership off just 11.5 overs and it looked as if the Punjab side would cruise to victory. But then, in a dramatic twist of fortunes, the Punjab Kings committed suicide and lost the match by a slender margin of just 2 runs.

Kartik Tyagi turned out to be the hero for the Rajasthan side with the ball. The right-arm pacer leaked just a single run in the final over of the match, as the Rajasthan Royals scripted a sensational come-from-behind victory. Well, in cricket, it is surely not over until it is over, and this match elucidates the same.

KL Rahul was indeed KLass personified. The right-hander scored 4 fours and 2 sixes in his 33-ball stay in the middle and scored a mellifluous 49. Mayank Agarwal scored 67 off 43 deliveries, and his innings was laced with 7 fours and 2 glorious sixes.

Even though both Rahul and Agarwal departed in quick succession, Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram steadied the Punjab innings. But then, just when it seemed like Punjab would romp home to victory, the Rajasthan side produced an excellent comeback, to beat their opponents.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mahipal Lomror help Rajasthan Royals post a massive total of 185

The Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Evin Lewis started the innings in scintillating fashion. Both were positive in their approach and took full advantage of the field restrictions in the first 6 overs. While the abandon of youth was visible in the way Jaiswal toyed with the Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) bowling attack, Evin Lewis displayed the typical Caribbean flair in his stay out in the middle.

And, the two men put on an opening partnership of 54 runs in just 5.3 overs. After Lewis departed for 36, Jaiswal continued to punish the Punjab bowlers and scored 49 at a strike rate of 136.11. Liam Livingstone too chipped in with a handy 25.

And then, came the brutal assault from the willow of Mahipal Lomror. The 21-year-old hammered the Punjab bowlers to all parts of the ground and scored a murderous 43 at a strike rate in excess of 250. Lomror’s stay out in the middle was embellished with 2 fours and 4 sixes. And, the ‘Men in Pink’ put on a massive total of 185 on the board in their allotted 20 overs.

For the Punjab Kings, veteran pacer Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh were outstanding with the ball. While Shami scalped 3 wickets in his quota of 4 overs and gave away 21 runs, Singh scalped a five-wicket haul with the ball in hand. With this victory, the Rajasthan Royals have now moved to the 5th place in the points table, while the Punjab Kings are languishing at 7th place.
