The Vidarbha cricket team has been playing some unbelievable cricket over the last two years. The side managed to defend their Ranji Trophy title earlier this month by defeating Saurashtra. Now, they’ve gone one step further and even cliched the Irani Cup 2019 against Rest of India (ROI) by the virtue of first innings lead.

Thus, Vidarbha became only the third team in the history to win two consecutive Irani Cup titles. Karnataka and Bombay are the other two teams to have achieved this feat. While Bombay won two or more titles four times, Karnataka managed to do it once.

The Vidarbha team seemed to be in high spirits after the win

The closely-fought Irani Cup final panned out for all the five days. Vidarbha had a chance to chase down the target set by ROI on the last day. However, both the skippers decided to call it a truce with nothing really happening. It was just about a mere formality to finish the game and Faiz Fazal – Ajinkya Rahane decided otherwise.

Post this fabulous win, the team took a victory lap all around the ground and acknowledged the crowd for their support. Moreover, as a part of a heart-warming gesture, the unit also decided to donate the prize money to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Pulwama attack.

The entire team and support staff seemed to be in high spirit after this memorable win and celebrated hard. Fazal credited the entire team for this double of Ranji Trophy and the Irani Cup at the post-match presentation. After collecting the trophy, the team posed for pictures. The players also had a few special chants during the celebrations. These included: “Who is the champion? – Vidarbha” and “How’s the Josh? – High Sir”.
