Ireland vs India: No broadcaster in India for the series

India are scheduled to play a couple of T20 Internationals against Ireland on June 27 and 29 respectively. The series will be played before India’s contests against England which starts on July 3 with a One Day International. Sky Sports has recently acquired the rights of broadcasting the Ireland matches in the United Kingdom (UK). Meanwhile, India’s broadcasters haven’t yet been finalized, which remains a worry.

Star Sports are primarily the broadcasters of UK matches in India. Apart from the T20 series against India, Ireland will also play a one-off Test match against Pakistan in Dublin this month, which will also be telecasted by Sky Sports. Warren Deutrom, the Chief Executive of Cricket Ireland, sounded delighted on the broadcast of the games as he believes it to be a huge boost for cricket in the country.

“This broadcast package is set to break Irish sporting records, as we anticipate that the T20I series against India alone will be the biggest worldwide TV audience of any event – sporting or otherwise – ever staged in Ireland,” Deutrom expressed his elation as per reports in Inside sport.

Ireland were crowned as the Full Members in 2017 along with Afghanistan and subsequently, they have also been granted Test status. Ireland played their major ODI tournament in the 2007 ICC World Cup where they rolled over Pakistan. Ever since they have made tremendous progress and after a decade their hard work has eventually paid dividends and the popularity of cricket in the country has also escalated.

“Since being confirmed as a Full Member of the International Cricket Council in June 2017, we have seen unprecedented interest in Irish cricket – most notably from a range of potential broadcast partners. We are delighted to announce the structure of the broadcasting schedule for the coming season, and we anticipate our fans worldwide will be pleased with the comprehensive nature of the package,” he added.
