Any young wicketkeeper-batsman from Jharkhand would idolize MS Dhoni. The story isn’t any different for Ishan Kishan. From leading the Indian team to the U19 Cricket World Cup in 2016 to playing for Jharkhand Ranji team regularly, the young player has come a long way. In an interview released online recently, the Patna-born player revealed how his idol helped him in his career.
During the interview, the wicket-keeper had revealed that Adam Gilchrist and MS Dhoni were his childhood heroes. However, when told to choose between them, the player revealed that MS Dhoni has had more influence on his career. The 21-year-old said that the ex-Indian captain always helps in learning new keeping drills. He also recalled the time when he was getting starts but not converting them into big scores, how Dhoni helped him then.
Ishan Kishan has been a consistent performer for Jharkhand
“Always MS Dhoni because of the way he carries himself. He always suggests to me what better can I do in my keeping drills. In the season where I scored 800 runs, I had a word with him about my batting, I told him I was getting starts but I was not able to convert them,” Ishan said on Spicy Pitch, a show by Cricbuzz.
Kishan said that the veteran recommended him to understand when to attack and when to cut down his attacking instincts and play normally. He revealed that there small things which the legendary keeper tells him and that advice actually benefits him.
“He told me you are an attacking batsman but when you are playing a day game, you need to know when to put a pause and then start again. These are small things which change your batting and helps you improve. I have learnt these things from MS Dhoni,” he added.
Kishan has been a consistent performer for the Jharkhand side in the domestic circuit for the past few years. He has been a regular member of the India A side as well. The former India U19 skipper has done extremely well in the past few years. Ishan Kishan is currently associated with Mumbai Indians franchise in the Indian Premier League.
