Rahul Tripathi has been one of the most consistent performers in the IPL ever since he first burst onto the scene in 2017. Since then he has gone on to represent four franchises including the likes of the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, Rajasthan Royals, and Kolkata Knight Riders. The talented batter is currently playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, despite having the potential of doing well in international cricket, Rahul Tripathi not getting a chance to don the India jersey is strange according to SRH bowling coach Dale Steyn. Giving further clarification on the same, the Proteas pace icon added that Tripathi can certainly be in the scheme of things as far as India’s T20I squad is concerned.

Rahul Tripathi has certainly shown maturity: Dale Steyn

“I certainly believe that Rahul has a serious chance of making it to India’s T20I team. The IPL is a platform that allows players to perform so well that the Indian national team selects players from that pool. It’s strange to see that he hasn’t got an opportunity in the Indian team so far,” Steyn told Sportskeeda.

“Given that the position he bats at [no. 3] is occupied by Virat Kohli in the Indian team, it’s going to be difficult to get that spot. But the way he’s currently playing and the way he has played in the past, he has certainly shown maturity. He’s putting his hand up and bashing the door down as hard as he can,” he added.

Rahul Tripathi has so far had a good season having amassed 228 runs from eight matches averaging 45.60 and an impressive strike rate of 174.05. He was one of the Orange Army’s important pillars in them registering five consecutive wins after having lost their opening two games of IPL 2022.

The 2016 winners had acquired his services for a sum of INR 8.5 crore at this year’s mega auction in February. He would be hoping to continue his splendid run with the bat during SRH’s next game against the defending champions CSK at Pune’s MCA Stadium on May 1.
