Team India opener KL Rahul who is currently recuperating from a shoulder injury which he sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia is currently chilling out at Goa. The right-hander underwent a surgery last month and was ruled out of IPL even before the tournament started. Rahul made a name for himself in the shortest format with his exceptional showing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2016 edition.
Rahul was brilliant with the bat in hand during the Test series against Australia but was unable to convert his starts into a big one. He smashed as many as 7 fifties during the series and was instrumental in India winning the series narrowly by a 2-1 margin. Out of cricketing action, Rahul took to his Instagram and posted a photo.
“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us. #sweetescape #abetterplace,” the caption read. He is certainly having a brilliant time holidaying in Goa. He posted yet another picture with a caption, “Working on my tan. Oh wait I was born with that. Hahah!! #throwback #holiday #enjoythesimplethings”.
Rahul emerged as the prime contender for the opener’s slot in the upcoming Champions Trophy but was ruled out due to the shoulder injury, Shikhar Dhawan has made a comeback in his place while Ajinkya Rahane has been picked as the 3rd opener along with Rohit Sharma. It will be pretty unfortunate for the young man to be missing out on live action given he was in a brilliant form coming into these two big tournaments.
Meanwhile, India begins their Champions Trophy title defence against Pakistan on 5th June followed by matches against Sri Lanka and South Africa. Given their form, India will be hot favourites to retain their title but it won’t be easy for them. The squad features some regular and experienced names while 5 players have also been named as standbys if any player gets injured.
