Preview

North West Warriors will lock horns with Leinster Lightning in the 5th match of the Ireland Inter-Provincial Cup 2023 at Mardyke in Cork on May 23. North West Warriors have played just one match so far, which they won, and are second in the standings. On the other hand, Leinster Lightning have played two matches where they are yet to win any and are placed in the last position in the rankings.

In their last encounter, North West Warriors had played against Munster Reds, where they won the toss and elected to bowl. The Reds started well with their innings with a solid opening partnership of 63 runs. Next coming batters got starts as well, but none of them could convert it to bigger totals. Their middle order failed, and they kept losing wickets which led them to being all-out at a meager score of 149 runs and could not even play a full 50 overs. The Warriors did not start well, as they lost two of their top-order batters on just nine runs. But the total was not big enough to create problems, and a few partnerships helped them chase the total within 40 overs and hence win the match.

Leinster Lightning had played against Munster Reds in their last encounter, where Munster Reds won the toss and elected to bowl. Lightning started decently but lost a couple of wickets regularly until there was a good sixth-wicket partnership. Mark Donegan was the pick of the batters, who scored 87 runs off 113 balls. He was helped by some good finishing by their lower order which pushed the team to a good total of 287 runs. In reply, Reds started brilliantly as all three top-order batters reached their respective half-centuries. Even Peter Moor scored a good fifty in the middle and easily won the match for his team by five wickets.
