Lungi Ngidi, the South African fast bowler had a great start to his international career. He had the tough task of picking up wickets against a strong Indian batting lineup when the Men in Blue travelled to South Africa for the test series. The pacer did not disappoint as he picked up crucial wickets and the Indian’s did not have many answers to his bowling.

Nidhi’s performances attracted interests from the Chennai Super Kings who acquired his services for the Indian Premier League. The pacer was expected to get few games in the tournament as CSK did not have too many genuine pace bowlers. However, due to the death of his father Jerome, Ngidi had to travel back to South Africa that prevented him from taking part in the tournament.

An Integral part of Proteas lineup

The fast bowler tweeted:”My hero is now an angel R.I.P. “ The sad demise of his father is certainly a big loss for Ngidi who had just started his international career. He may not be in the right state of mind to travel and play cricket at the moment. Recently, the pacer was also subject to a strip search when he was on his way back to Johannesburg.

Ngidi has picked up 14 wickets in 3 test matches and 8 wickets in the 4 ODI’s that he has played. Standing tall at 1.93m, Ngidi is capable of bowling in excess of 140 kph, seaming it either way and can keep the batsmen honest on the back foot with mean short-pitched deliveries.

He is also known to bowl the heavy ball with an open-chested bowling run-up. Together with Kagiso Rabada, Ngidi is the face of South African bowling unit. With Morne Morkel having retired, Ngidi will have more responsibilities to support Rabada and Philander to take the team forward. He will be an integral part of the Proteas lineup ahead of the 2019 World Cup.
