Mithali Raj has effortlessly been one of the greatest cricketers India have ever produced. The 35-year-old is the country’s leading run scorer in the T20I format above the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. However, the recent times haven’t been cheerful for her by any stretch of the imagination. She recently donned the national colours in the Women’s World T20 in the West Indies.

She was a part of the playing eleven in the first three matches against New Zealand, Pakistan and Ireland, albeit she didn’t get to bat in the opening encounter in Guyana. However, she missed India’s final group match against Australia at the same venue owing to a knee niggle. To everyone’s surprise, the veteran wasn’t included for the semis against England in Antigua.

Mithali to hang her boots?

Harmanpreet Kaur and Co lost the match by eight wickets and bowed out of the tournament. Thereafter, Annisha Gupta, Mithali’s manager, slammed Kaur for leaving the cricketer out. Gupta also termed Harmanpreet as manipulative. In the meantime, it has been learned that Mithali has been contemplating retirement after the poor treatment as per reports in Mid-Day.

“She struggled to sleep peacefully throughout the tournament because there was a lot of uncertainty surrounding her place in the team. There was no clarity over her role in the team and her batting position. She was told about her omission from the semi-final after the warm-up session on match day,” a source mentioned.

Mithali delivered with the willow in the limited chances she got in the 20-overs extravaganza. She played against Pakistan in Guyana and scored 56 runs from 47 balls with the help of seven boundaries. She even notched 51 runs from 56 balls with four boundaries and a six against Ireland Women at the same venue. The knock came on a strip, which wasn’t easy for batting by any means.
