Mohit Mongia, the son of one of the best wicket keepers of India Nayan Mongia, has broken the record of his father in the U-19 cricket. He played a sensational knock of 240 runs off just 246 deliveries for Baroda against Kerala in Cooch Bihar Trophy. Nayan Mongia held the previous record by scoring 224 runs at the Under-19 level for Baroda. Mohit is also the captain of the team and is leading from the front for his team.

The 18-year-old cricketer is also the left-arm spinner and was appointed the skipper of the side in October this year. He first grabbed the eyeballs of the cricketing fraternity in June after scoring a blistering 91 off just 36 balls against Vyara in Maharaja Fatesingrao Gaekwad Inter-District U-19 tournament. He had also bagged a six-wicket haul in the same game. Also in the ongoing game, Baroda took the lead of 39 by scoring 409/7 in response to Kerala’s 370 in the first innings.

Nayan Mongia delighted for his son

Nayan Mongia, the father, was delighted to hear the news of his son Mohit breaking his record of highest runs for Baroda. “I am really happy that my son has broken my record. It’s an incredible feeling. Mohit has been playing well so this double century is very well deserved,” he told Times of India. However, Nayan also advised his son to not be satisfied with one double-century and look for more in the near future.

“I told him that he shouldn’t be satisfied with just one double century. There is lot of competition ahead so he has to keep performing. Yes. Mohit likes to bat in the flow and does counter attack. I used to be a subdued batsman who batted slowly initially before picking up pace later in the innings,” he said while speaking on the differences in the batting styles of both.
