MS Dhoni expects cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir would represent India

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni recently visited the state of Jammu and Kashmir in the northern part of country. He saw the cricket action in the Chinar Cricket Premier League in a remote village near the capital city of Srinagar. Dhoni was surprised to see the popularity of the sport and his fan following in the state. Dhoni has hit time off from the field as team India is playing Sri Lanka in the Test series at the moment. With the interaction that he had with the young children and the fans, MS Dhoni had words of wisdom for all.

He cited that it is of utmost importance for the people of Jammu and Kashmir to be cooperative with the army. He also feels that the children in the state should focus on the education. Commenting on the sports, he feels that the state has the capability to produce great players. A good platform is what they need, and more importantly, the willingness to word hard for it is the key.

“As far as sports is concerned, it is important to have a platform, but after that the players have to work really hard. Our country is huge and many people play cricket. The aim should be to represent the country for which you have to consistently perform at first class level. Even if there are not such facilities here, but when we were playing it was not that we had many facilities,” quoted MS Dhoni.

On J&K Players representing India

Commenting on the plight of cricket in the state, MS Dhoni feels that there will be cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir who would play for the national side. He feels that the IPL is a good platform where the players can see themselves being picked in the side. He hopes that the players capitalize on the opportunities that come their way.

“There will be players [to represent India] from here in future. There are players here who will play many matches. In IPL, the combination is also seen in a way which team needs what type of combination and accordingly the team is formed. What is important is players give more than 100 per cent and perform well,” he added further.
