New Zeland Cricket (NZC) has recently released their Future Tours Programme (FTP) for the next five years. The FTP covers all international matches from 2018-23. During this while, teams like Australia, England and India will visit the Kiwis. The same has been iterated by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the world’s apex cricket board. The FTP is the first to incorporate the new One-Day International and Test structures.

Unde the new regulations, New Zealand’s first assignment in the World Test Championship (WTC) will get underway in August next year versus Sri Lanka. Thereafter, the Kiwis will cross swords with England in two Tests at home followed by their Test series versus Australia, which also included New Zealand’s first ever Boxing Day Test match in Melbourne since 1987.

“This will help increase engagement”- White

The Black Caps will also take part in a couple of Tests at home against number one ranked India and a T20I series versus the Aussies in their own backyard. The ICC has also put forth the points allocation system for the WTC and the ODI qualifying league. According to the model of the previous FTPs, the Black Caps have tried to prepare the schedule to match the needs of the ICC tournaments.

Meanwhile, David White, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) mentioned that the schedule will allow the supporters to enjoy cricket of all the countries. “By bringing more relevance and context into Test and ODI cricket we can farewell what used to be known as neutral games, and introduce interest into every fixture, no matter which side is playing,”White mentioned.

“In a rapidly-evolving world, this will help increase engagement in cricket and grow the game both locally and globally. There are a number of highlights there, with all the marquee teams visiting and some eagerly awaited contests looming – not least those 2019-20 Tests against England, Australia and India,” the Chief added.
