New Zealand Cricket (NZC) having named nine players of the squad earlier today announced the complete 15-man squad for the One-Day International and Twenty20 International series against India that gets underway later this month. The selectors while picking the proven names also backed three uncapped players in Todd Astle and Glenn Phillips for the limited-overs tour.

There are only two changes in the T20I side as veteran Ross Taylor and George Worker will make way for Ish Sodhi and Tom Bruce who are already in India as a part of the New Zealand A team that is currently clashing with the India A in the unofficial ODI series having lost the two-match unofficial Test series 2-0.

The Kiwis also dropped two big names in all-rounder Jimmy Neesham and attacking batsman Neil Broom who had below-par outings in the Champions Trophy in England earlier this year.

Two changes in the T20I team

NZC in a statement announcing the squad said, “Ish Sodhi and Tom Bruce will travel with the squad for the ODIs, having been named in the Twenty20 squad. Ross Taylor and Worker will return to New Zealand following the conclusion of the ODIs.”

The uncapped players have both Todd and Philips have impressed with their performance for the NZ A team and have been rewarded for the current form coupled with their notable show domestic cricket.

“Todd has been one of the best white-ball players in domestic cricket the last few seasons and he’s backed that up with a strong showing for New Zealand A. Todd brings all round skill to the squad, quality leg spin, is athletic in the field as well as being able to contribute with the bat,” New Zealand A’s team manager Gavin Larsen stated.

“Glenn has made an immediate effect in domestic cricket and has certainly taken his opportunity over here with NZ A, including an outstanding 140 not out. Glenn is an option for us with the gloves in both Twenty20s and ODIs, so we feel we have our bases covered with the 15 we’ve picked,” he added.
