Morna Nielsen, New Zealand Women’s left-arm bowler, has decided to hang her boots from all forms of cricket at the age of 28 years. The cricketer will now focus into her job as a structural engineer. She forayed into international cricket in an ODI against Australia Women in Adelaide back in 2010. A couple of years later, she made her T20I debut against the same opposition in Sydney.

The Tauranga-born spinner has an experience of 52 ODIs and 44 T20Is in which she has notched 53 and 41 wickets respectively. Her last international appearance was in a T20I against Pakistan Women in Nelson in November 2016. Her best bowling figures of 5/21 in international cricket came against Sri Lanka Women in 2015. Nielsen also moved to the number one rankings in T20Is in 2014.

I’ll still be keeping a keen eye on the Sparks

At the domestic circuit, she represented the Otago Sparks. The tweaker also played for the Southern Vipers in the KIA Super League and the Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League in Australia. Going down the memory lane, she mentioned plying her trade in cricket worldwide as a privilege.

“Looking back on my career, it was awesome to have the opportunity to play at so many different places both domestically and internationally,” Nielsen was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.

“It was also an interesting time to be involved with the changing landscape of the women’s game. It opened up opportunities I never thought possible such as the Women’s Big Bash in Australia and Super League in England,” she remarked.

The 28-year-old also promised to keep following her domestic team and hailed the bunch of talent in the Sparks’ team. “I’ll still be keeping a keen eye on the Sparks in their domestic competitions. There’s an enormous amount of talent in the squad and they are a great bunch of girls,” she added.
