The result margins show how well New Zealand got under the skin of the Caribbean side in the 3-match ODI series who are awaiting a series win any format for three years. After starting the series with a comfortable 5-wicket win, the hosts recorded their biggest win on home soil in the 2nd ODI to clinch the series. In the rain-affected final game, New Zealand completed a whitewash with a thumping 66-run win.
All the stats and numbers that were recorded during the series between New Zealand and Windies:
3/33 – Todd Astle recorded the best bowling figures by a New Zealand spinner on ODI debut in the first game of the series. He also became the first NZ spinner to take a 3-fer on ODI debut.
7/34 – Trent Boult’s bowling figures of 7/34 in the 2nd ODI in Christchurch are the 2nd best bowling figures for New Zealand in ODI cricket behind Tim Southee’s 7/33 against England in the 2015 CWC in Wellington.
9 – West Indies’ score at fall of their 5th wicket in the 3rd ODI is their lowest in this format and the overall the joint lowest score for any team. Sri Lanka lost their 5th wicket at six against Bangladesh in 2009 while Canada lost their 5th wicket on seven against the Netherlands in 2013.
10 – Trent Boult became the 2nd New Zealand bowler to take ten wickets in two consecutive ODI matches. Shane Bond took ten wickets across two ODIs in 2005 with 6/14 against India and 4/26 against Zimbabwe.
10 – Boult became the first NZ player to take ten wickets in a 3-match ODI series. Chris Pringle took nine wickets in the 1991 home ODI series against England.
56 – Boult became the 2nd fastest New Zealand to complete 100 ODI wickets player after Shane Bond (54 matches). He needed 56 matches for the milestone which are the 5th fewest for any bowler.
57 – Ross Taylor’s 57 is the highest lowest score in an ODI series/tournament where a player has aggregated 150+ runs in only three innings. Taylor’s scores in the series read: 49*, 57 and 47*. Marvan Atapattu also made 150 runs in a 3-match ODI series at home against England in 2001 with the highest score of 57.
204 – New Zealand’s 204-run win in the 2nd ODI is their 4th biggest win margin in terms of runs in ODI cricket and their biggest win at home. They defeated Zimbabwe by 202 runs in 2012 in Napier. New Zealand’s 159-run win in Queenstown in 2014 was their previous biggest win over the Windies.
2008 – New Zealand won their first ODI series against Windies since 2008. Since then, New Zealand took on Windies twice before this series losing in one and sharing another.
