The New Zealand Women will be locking horns with Australia in Match 11 of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on March 13. Both teams would be heading into this clash having won their previous encounters. The Aussies seem to be unstoppable at the moment having won both their opening fixtures against England by 12 runs and Pakistan by seven wickets respectively. The Kiwis on the other hand registered a morale-boosting 62-run victory over India after a heartbreaking loss in their first match against West Indies by three runs. The hosts would now be hoping to snap the six-time world champions’ unbeaten run.

Australian skipper Meg Lanning is the top run-getter among the two sides as far as the active players are concerned. It is to be noted that the 29-year-old holds a unique record against New Zealand and that is having registered the most number of centuries by a batter against a single team. She has six tons to her name against the White Ferns. At the same time, the Aussie captain’s knock of 112 during the Women’s World Cup 2013 also remains the highest individual score by a player in the quadrennial event.

Both Australia and New Zealand had faced off against each other in the Match 10 of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 at the County Ground in Bristol on July 2, 2017. The coin landed in the favor of New Zealand skipper Suzie Bates and she decided to bat first. Even though Amy Satterthwaite and Rachael Priest could not do much, Bates who was opening the innings showed great resistance by leading from the front with the bat scoring 51 runs from 72 deliveries. The Australian bowlers then looked to run through the middle-order before a fighting 52 from Katie Perkins and 35 from Erin Bermingham propelled the Kiwis to 219/9 from their 50 overs.

In reply, the Aussie openers Beth Mooney and Nicole Bolton meant business right away adding 49 runs for the opening stand. After the duo was dismissed, skipper Meg Lanning and star all-rounder Ellyse Perry carried out the rescue act with a 71-run stand for the third wicket before the former’s dismissal for 48. Even Perry was sent back for 71 with just one run left to get. However, she along with Alex Blackwell (36*)  had completed the formalities by then as Australia emerged victorious by five wickets with eight balls to spare.
