Pakistan announce Women's squad for upcoming ODI and T20I home series against Sri Lanka

Gull Feroza, Tuba Hassan and Shadaf Shamas have earned their maiden call ups for the international side.

Pakistan Women’s selection committee has announced squads to play their first international series after the Women’s World Cup 2022 campaign. The Women in green are set to host a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka which will be followed by a three-match ODI series. The venue for the series will be Karachi’s Southend Club and the series starts off with the first T20I to be played on the 24th of May. The T20I series will go on until May 28 while the ODIs which will be part of the ICC Women’s Championship will take place from June 1 to June 5.

The national women’s team had already announced 26 probables who were training at Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre at the National Stadium in Karachi and now the squad has been cut down to 15. Among the notable inclusions, two uncapped players – wicketkeeper-batter Gull Feroza and legspinner Tuba Hassan have earned their maiden call ups in the T20I squad while Sadaf Shamas and Feroza have made it to the ODI squad for the first time.

The chief selector Asmavia Iqbal explained the reason behind the inclusion of the three youngsters and was delighted about their progression in the camp as well.

“I want to wish the two squads the very best for the series, we have provided opportunities to Gull Feroza, Sadaf Shamas and Tuba Hassan on the basis of their future potential and skills. The three youngsters took part in the emerging camp last December and made an impression with their talent. I am pleased to see their progress and we all feel it is now the right time to give them exposure in international cricket,” Chief Selector Asmavia Iqbal was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

Left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal has been recalled for both formats, while Kainat Imtiaz has returned from injury for the T20 series alone. Bismah Maroof will lead the side in both formats for the upcoming home assignments.

T20I squad:
Bismah Maroof (capt), Aiman Anwer, Aliya Riaz, Anam Amin, Ayesha Naseem, Diana Baig, Fatima Sana, Gull Feroza (wk), Iram Javed, Kainat Imtiaz, Muneeba Ali (wk), Nida Dar, Omaima Sohail, Sadia Iqbal and Tuba Hassan.
ODI squad:
Bismah Maroof (captain), Aiman Anwer, Aliya Riaz, Anam Amin, Diana Baig, Fatima Sana, Ghulam Fatima, Gull Feroza, Muneeba Ali (wk), Nida Dar, Omaima Sohail, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Ameen, and Sidra Nawaz (wk).
