The former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has come forward to lend his support to team India after their dismaying loss to New Zealand. The Virat Kohli-led side entered the high-profile tournament as favorites to dominate the proceedings. The team however lost their opening fixture to Pakistan.

The Men in Green displayed some great dominance to break India’s 12 match winning streak against them in World Cups. India then had to face defeat against New Zealand by eight wickets. Owing to this, the team is currently languishing at the fifth position on the points table. Their performances in the mega event so far have placed them under major scrutiny.

Pietersen has however backed the team and has stated the uncertain nature of sports. The former England batter also appealed to the people to understand that the players are not robots and that they need the support of their fans all the time. He took it to his official Twitter account to express his opinions on the same.

“In sport, one wins and one loses. No player takes the field to lose. Representing your country is the biggest honor. Please understand that sportspersons are not robots and they need support all the time,” Pietersen tweeted in the Hindi language.

India’s batting lineup has struggled to make a larger impact in the tournament so far. In the opening game against Pakistan, the top order couldn’t contribute much. However, a half-century by Virat Kohli and a cameo by Rishabh Pant helped the side to put a respectable total on the board.

Against the Black Caps, the team wasn’t able to bring a shift in their fortunes. The batters yet again found themselves in a spot of bother as the team could manage just 110 runs. Their second straight loss fetched them criticism from the cricket on-lookers.

However, the Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has also asked the people not to be too harsh on the players. He tweeted: “Let’s not be harsh on our players. Yes, we know them for better cricket. Sabse jyada players ko hurt hota hai after such results. But well done to @BLACKCAPS NZ for winning the match. They were fantastic in all departments @BCCI @T20WorldCup @ICC @StarSportsIndia
